Event Tech of the Week: @Sharypic

I love, love, love all things events and technology. If you can’t tell by my tweets, Facebook posts and all my other social media interactions, I love to talk about events and the tools that help us do what we do better. In June 2011, I partnered with an organization called imbookin to bring you PlannerTech – an event technology showcase. This weekly blog series is going to help continue to expose you to new tools you need to be aware of as an event planner. Also, in case you missed it, PlannerTech could be coming soon to your area!

Today, we’re talking about Sharypic

Your name: Alan Traeger (François-Joseph Grimault, CEO)
Company/Tool Name: sharypic
Website: http://sharypic.com
Twitter: @sharypic
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/sharypic

What is the “problem” that your tool seeks to solve?
At every event around the world thousands of photos are taken by hundreds of attendees yet few are ever seen. They get lost on twitter, are tucked away on smartphones, or simply disappear into the social media ether.

At the same time, these images are true; they are incredibly important for their unique, personal perspective and what they represent for every kind of event: From weddings to corporate, music festival to conference, village festival to global sport phenomenon. Photos have the power to transform a staid conference into a dynamic, vibrant, living-breathing 360-degree experiential event narrative.

sharypic leverages technology and helps transform your event into active engagement; it gathers your story and makes it available to the audiences you want to reach. With sharypic you can share your event’s story on a customizable platform that can be enjoyed live at the event (and online), afterwards online, or on your desktop by downloading everything.

What is the best audience for this tool? Corporate events? Social? Other? Large? Small?
sharypic is the perfect tool for event planners that want to gather and share photos during the event (live) and afterward, and who want to increase attendee participation.

The platform is scalable and works well with any size event with any focus: Large or small, public or private, corporate, festival, conference, wedding, etc.

For private events, access to photos is limited to only the people you invite. For public events, organizers can leverage social media to rapidly increase their events visibility and impact (reaching social media amplification of over 100x for some events).

What does your tool help event planners do better?
sharypic allows planners and participants to access, view, and enjoy photos; it also helps event organizers generate engagement, extend visibility, maximize event impact, and makes sharing event photos as easy as taking them. The platform collects photos automatically from twitter, by live contribution from email and mobile app, and through importing existing albums from Facebook, Picasa, Flickr, etc. to present a 360-degree event perspective that can be displayed in real-time, embedded, shared, saved, downloaded, and more.

Engagement is created at the venue with a live display of all event photos with PhotoWall and the gamification opportunities that complement it. As attendees see their photos on PhotoWall, the more they take and the more they share (engagement increase of over 100% for some events). The screen also generates sponsorship opportunities such as logo placement, revolving “ads,” communication, etc.  Interactivity continues on the web with a real-time photo stream that can be embedded on any website or blog. In both cases, photos can be displayed with or without moderation.

How is your tool different from/better than the competition?
sharypic is the only platform to offer LIVE event photo sharing: Real-time engagement and fun (PhotoWall, embeddable slideshow, and gamification), concurrent moderation, increased sponsorship/advertising opportunities, ease of use, and full support.

sharypic bridges the photo gap between live tweets and video streams to harness the full power of the mobile user experience and social media.

What is the single coolest feature of your product?
Real-time photo display with PhotoWall and embeddable slideshow.

Anything else we need to know?

sharypic offers two options:

  1. Self-service option for events planners with limited need of customization
  2. A customizable option that adjusts to a planner’s individual needs.

Further, development services are available for specific needs such as additional features.
