Event Tech of the Week: @Preseria

I love, love, love all things events and technology. If you can’t tell by my tweets, Facebook posts and all my other social media interactions, I love to talk about events and the tools that help us do what we do better. In June 2011, I partnered with an organization called Pogby to bring you PlannerTech – an event technology showcase. This weekly blog series is going to help continue to expose you to new tools you need to be aware of as an event planner. Also, in case you missed it, PlannerTech could be coming soon to your area!

Today, we’re talking about Presaria

PresariaYour name: Dag Hendrik Lerdal
Company/Tool Name: Preseria AS / Preseria Conference
Website: http://www.preseria.com
Twitter: preseria
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/preseria

PresariaWhat is the “problem” that your tool seeks to solve?
Our tool makes it easier to handle presentations at medium and large conferences. The tool collects presentation files from the speakers before or during the event and plays them – no matter what format and with seamless switching between presentations.

Between the presentations a pause image is shown to the audience. This consists usually of the conference’s own graphical profile, which gives the event a professional look. After the conference, the tool automatically generates a publishing page for easy web publishing and sharing of the conference material. Here the participants can choose to download the presentations in PDF or view them directly in their web browser.

What is the best audience for this tool? Corporate events? Social? Other? Large? Small?
Medium to large conferences

What does your tool help event planners do better?
Preseria Conference makes life easier for presenters and conference organizers in the different stages of a conference:

Planning: Organization of conferences, sessions, presenters and their presentation files on web.
Execution: Problem-free execution of presentations. No hassle switching between presenters and their files.
Publishing: Fast, easy and professional publishing solution for online or offline viewing of presentations.

How is your tool different from/better than the competition?
Our tool covers the planning (gathering), execution and publishing-phases of conference presentations. Our tool supports all common presentation formats, not only PowerPoint.

What is the single coolest feature of your product?
The automatic synchronization of presentation files between the web-site, where presenters upload their presentation, and the computer in the conference venue. This enables presenters to work on their presentation up to three minutes before they enter the stage. Their presentation will be ready for them and the hassle of connecting a new computer or juggle another USB stick is eliminated.

Anything else we need to know?
We’re soon launching a new product for presenters and meeting organizers. Check out beta.preseria.com for more info on this.

    Hi Liz,

Finally got a chance to check this out, and it really is pretty slick! My gut says that upload/download/publish portal side is going to be more useful for the interior meeting planner of a corporation or association. A situation where the planner has relatively easy access to the speakers/executives involved (IE, has their email addresses) is going to be perfect. For us as a third party planner, it felt like we wanted to be able to use a tool like this, but realistically didn’t have the proper access to all the individuals involved in most of the conferences we manage. We stared at it, wanting to using it, but feeling like ultimately it would add steps to our process instead of saving them. Again, though, for the internal planner, this could be a HUGE tool.

On the presentation side, it feels like a product a little ahead of its time, in that it assumes ubiquitous high bandwidth internet access. The “presenters can change their presentations right up until the event” feature assumes that the playback machines can connect to the internet and sync right before the event. With the incredibly high rates that hotels and convention centers charge for internet access in their meeting spaces, easily 90% of our clients are still not bringing in access to the meeting room other than wifi, and that service is usually sketchy at best. Again we’re left wanting to use this feature, but knowing the current budget conscious environment we found it unlikely. How do you convince clients to bring in a hard line internet connection for $100/day to update presentations when a 4GB flash drive costs $4.99?

We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this one, though! Thanks for your great articles, interviews, and #eventtech of the week!
