New Year’s Resolutions

Many people are taking advantage of the start of the calendar year and the downtime provided by the holidays to reflect on the successes and challenges of 2010 and plan for 2011. I thought it might be nice to share some #eventprofs business resolutions to inspire you. What I love about our contributors is that they are incredibly specific goals.

What are you resolving to do in 2011? Add your thoughts in the comments below!

@lizkingevents I am spending 2011 working on monetizing some of my successes from 2010. Social media has provided me with a lot of opportunities. Many of these opportunities have been organic and so I look to 2011 to be more strategic about the successes I achieve there. I want to ensure that I achieve good ROR (return on relationships) and ROI. I will be updating my website to better highlight our strengths and will be bringing on some new staff members to increase our capacity and diversify our offerings.

@heidithorne For 2011, I am completely overhauling my marketing strategy. Many of the markets I have served for years are undergoing massive change, due to a variety of factors including the economy, technological advancements, green initiatives, labor issues, and more. 2010 was not business as usual! And 2011 won’t be either. It’s requiring me to focus my efforts on some new marketing horizons. So my major New Year’s resolution, which I am already working on, is to develop a solid marketing plan and sales targets done by the end of January. Luckily, through the gift of social media over the past couple years, I have been able to reestablish a presence in the tradeshow and events arenas which are my favorites. Social media will be playing a major role in my new strategy for sure. I am so thankful to all my #eventprofs friends who have been so supportive and I look forward to working with them in 2011.

@chrisuschan (1) Listen more and take notes, (2) stop using overused, business jargon in our messaging (3) create better, more meaningful content that is oriented to challenges our audience faces and (4) bring more of the human side of our business to the forefront. It’s about understand our clients needs and building lasting relationships with them without all the clutter.

@inspirationguy 100% Focus on Success
One of the key resolutions for Design Inspiration in 2011 is to be even more focused on success. Every day, we begin with a Power Hour that helps us to zero in on our key long-term goals and short-term tactics. This has been extremely effective in 2010 and so for 2011 I resolve to be even more committed to our daily Power Hour and to make sure it assists not only our own success, but all those wonderful people and businesses we are connected to as well.

@jeffhurt A renewed focus on cultivation coupled with kindness.
Cultivation ranges from saying thank-you to making it easy for visitors to use your website to making information easily shareable and free and everything in between. Cultivation forms the basis of our relationships with our supporters and clients. It nurtures and strengthens relationships. And done right, it correctly helps us find more supporters and clients.

@tracibrowne My 2011 resolution is to approach ideas and methods I feel do not work with a more positive and active demeanor. If I think someone is doing something the wrong way, instead of complaining about it, I will consider if it is something I can help fix. Do I have the means or the desire to see it done right? If the answer is yes, then, instead of bringing attention to the fault my goal will be to improve on the inadequate and fix the mistakes. I guess another way of saying this would be no more bitching and whining.
