Future of Eventprofs Twitter Chat Recap – Part 2

After a very lively conversation on Tuesday, the #Eventprofs took up the challenge of a part two conversation on today’s tweet chat. Please check out my summary and let me know if there are any areas that I missed or need to be expanded on.

What do you hope to get from the #Eventprofs community?

eventsforgood: So today’s chat is a part 2 of our chat on Tuesday – what do we want from our community and what is our future? #eventprofs
robstanbridge: #eventprofs examples and top tips for me would be great, solutions for people who don’t want social media and can’t see the benefits

lizkingevents: I joined #eventprofs for resource sharing, support and idea generation :) #eventprofs
EmilieBarta: Connecting with like-minded, forward-thinking, passionate event individuals is what brought me to #eventprofs
suzanneaxt: I joined #eventprofs for the networking opportunities.
susanlynncope: Q1 to learn from a broader network and engage with a community #eventprofs
GregRuby: This forum, for me, was to get information, meet like minded professionals and a few hot babes #eventprofs
ericlukazewski: Q1: What brought me here: Knowledge, information, new ideas #eventprofs
SAWeiss: Continue to share best practices and resources. #eventprofs
JeniseFryatt: @eventsforgood Q1 – Sharing, support, collaboration. Much more than just networking. A feeling of family. #eventprofs
Bruce_Rose: #eventprofs some of the tools we see on the community are great. More live sessions would be fantastic, cross-continent brainstorms anyone?
eventsforgood: @EmilieBarta Absolutely! Disc. on should we change the Wiki to other tech, having a mentor program, how to keep chats going #eventprofs
lizkingevents: #eventprofs friendships/support are the best! #eventprofs
MeetingsDiva: joined #eventprofs to network and feel the power of the industry #eventprofs
ericlukazewski: Q1: I’d like to see ways to expand community and knowledge sharing in addition to the existing chats and Twitter community. #eventprofs
EmilieBarta: I luv all these reasons why we joined this community. Can someone put them together in a blog post to share & grow?? #eventprofs
lakewilliamson: @eventsforgood I like the idea of sharing in information and discussing new trends in the industry. #eventprofs
josedramirez: Q1 – respect for everyone’s level of knowledge, creativity, support, one stop resource center #eventprofs
ready2spark: @eventsforgood To support, to lead, to (positively) challenge one another, to help each others’ businesses, to share, to educate #eventprofs
Bruce_Rose: #eventprofs are we looking for something more permanent then? Such as a forum…
EmilieBarta: Goals of community? Challenge each other to grow personally & professionally virtually & F2F! #eventprofs
Mizcity: I joined because I was excited to meet other event pro’s exploring SM & ease of networking! Have met some some awesome people:) #eventprofs
JeniseFryatt: I joined for networking, but have stayed because this community feeds my soul (corny, but true.) #eventprofs
LindsayFultz: I joined for the networking, understanding, continued education, the resources, motivation, confidence building and support. #eventprofs

What should our goals be as a community?

eventsforgood: First question to get us started – what should our goals be as a community? What brought you here in the first place? #eventprofs
eventsforgood: So based on our experiences that drove us here, what should the goals of our community be? #eventprofs
sldoolittle: Q2: Community goals? #eventprofs blog! You know you want one. Guest bloggers all in one place. That would be grand! #eventprofs
eventsforgood: Should we have goals specifically set for the community? #eventprofs
GregRuby: Specific goals would ruin the feel for me. RT @eventsforgood: Should we have goals specifically set for the community? #eventprofs
ready2spark: @eventsforgood Thought I’d share the original thoughts behind eventprofs… http://bit.ly/cS6XWc #eventprofs
ericlukazewski: @eventsforgood Loose goals are a good idea, but I believe a natural and organic journey is helpful for embracing new ideas too #eventprofs
EmilieBarta: Maybe loosely defined goals? This is a community, not a company. #eventprofs
eventsforgood: Thanks! Do you think is is all still relevant? RT @ready2spark: the original thoughts behind eventprofs… http://bit.ly/cS6XWc #eventprofs
carolyn_ray: I agree that specific goals may not be right but that general ideals could work #eventprofs
ericlukazewski: RT @EmilieBarta: Maybe loosely defined goals? This is a community, not a company. #eventprofs
ericlukazewski: Progression, sharing, growth, advancement – these should be goals. They don’t need further refinement. #eventprofs
tracibrowne: Goals will evolve as the community evolves…organically RT @eventsforgood: Should we have goals specifically set 4 community? #eventprofs
susanlynncope: I think the goals of the community have grown organically. We share, listen and support. #eventprofs

How do we keep #Eventprofs motivated to stay engaged?

eventsforgood: What are specific ideas that we can implement to keep the community motivated and connected? Any thoughts on that? #eventprofs
ready2spark: Q2 Regular chats are a good start :) #eventprofs
susanlynncope: @eventsforgood Reinstating the chats has shown renewed interest in the community. Look at all the involvement today #eventprofs
EmilieBarta: Keep the community motivated? Constant communication & support virtually & F2F…luv impromptu tweet-ups when I travel! :) #eventprofs
JeniseFryatt: @susanlynncope I think the desire 4 chats has always been there. Just needed ppl 2 sign up to moderate & choose topic #eventprofs

New Ideas

eventsforgood: Is an #eventprofs website with a blog something that people are interested in seeing?
carolyn_ray: @eventsforgood I would love to see a website! #eventprofs
lakewilliamson: @eventsforgood A community blog would be great. Everyone is kind of doing one on the side anyway. #eventprofs
EmilieBarta: I don’t think I am in favor of an #eventprofs blog…too structured maybe? I like how things progress naturally with us. #eventprofs
EmilieBarta: Plus we all learn from each other by holding hands & if there is a blog, we will just learn from reading. See what I mean? #eventprofs
PinkDeb: do you have a specific idea ie forum? RT @Bruce_Rose: #eventprofs are we looking for something more permanent then? Such as a forum…
VirtuallyAmaz: I appreciate the #eventprofs daily so I can have a snapshot when I can’t be live/online #eventprofs
josedramirez: @eventsforgood #eventprofs with more experience can adopt newbies as their little sister/brother and start with #education
streampoint: @ready2spark #eventprofs – the whole idea of having an organic chat and sticking to a forum such as twitter is unique, instant and organic.
ericlukazewski: @ready2spark I’d love to see what areas this community can expand to beyond Twitter #eventprofs
carolyn_ray: @ready2spark I would love to see it exist beyond and I think that to a certain extent it already does! #eventprofs
tracibrowne: The idea of a mentoring process keeps coming up as well #eventprofs
streampoint: @ready2spark #eventprofs – perhaps an idea of starting a blog related to hot topics that people have discussions on twitter. Rather the blog
JeniseFryatt: @eventsforgood @sldoolittle – since there isn’t an #eventprofs blog, we try to gather#eventprofs content on #Engage365 #eventprofs

Event Camp

skylineexhibits: More effort lately with F2F Event Camps that temporarily superseded regular chats. But F2F greatly strengthened relationships. #eventprofs
eventsforgood: Did EC take the place of chats? RT @SkylineExhibits: More effort lately w/F2F Event Camps that temporarily superseded reg chats. #eventprofs
Mizcity: @eventsforgood @skylineexhibits I think EC allows for extended chats on the content from Chats, but did not take its place #eventprofs

Welcoming Community Newbies

josedramirez: @eventsforgood: get the newbies more involved, chats can be intimidating at first #eventprofs
eventsforgood: @susanlynncope Terrified of joining a chat or being more involved than that – like moderating? How can we help newbies? #eventprofs
mmcallen: @eventsforgood Any specific ideas for newbies? More eventcamps- meetups in your cities #eventprofs
JeniseFryatt: @eventsforgood @ready2spark Lara made a very nice video on participating in chats http://ht.ly/3c1cV #eventprofs
susanlynncope: @eventsforgood terrified of joining a chat. Still terrified of moderating. Okay, I’ll bite the bullet and sign up #eventprofs
josedramirez: @susanlynncope Some chats still terrify me because of the level of expertise and some bcus of their coldness to newbies! #eventprofs
eventsforgood: @josedramirez What coldness to newbies are sensing? How can we open that up? #eventprofs
VirtuallyAmaz: I didn’t have that experience RT @eventsforgood: @josedramirez What coldness to newbies are sensing? How can we open that up? #eventprofs
EmilieBarta: I like the “learn by doing” aspect to our community…and don’t think it’s a bad thing to prove yourself. #eventprofs
carolyn_ray: I wonder if it feels clique-y and that is scary to newbies? #eventprofs
mmcallen: @josedramirez: maybe more experienced eventprofs can make it a goal to bring in or help 1 newbie a month to experience EP #eventprofs
JeniseFryatt: I wonder if we should do something especially for newbies – maybe an #eventprofs newbie chat occasionally? #eventprofs
josedramirez: @eventsforgood that was just a general comment of other chats, not necessarily #eventprofs chat, our community embraces newbies
eventsforgood: You are a recent transplant – how did you feel? RT @carolyn_ray: I wonder if it feels clique-y and that is scary to newbies? #eventprofs
Mizcity: @JeniseFryatt I like that idea ALOT. I dont have a ton of time to mentor but would be happy to do an intro chat for newbies! #eventprofs
Mizcity: @LindsayFultz also a great idea- and works both ways as a chat for newbies and a practice in moderation to ease ppl into it! #eventprofs
LindsayFultz: What about co moderating chats w/newbies…? I know that would help me. damn #redpen #eventprofs
EmilieBarta: Just to bring up the other side of the story…no one taught any of us how to be an #eventprof & look at what we built. #eventprofs
eventsforgood: Like a tutorial? RT @susanlynncope: RT @LindsayFultz: What about a moderate chats w/newbies…I know that would help me. #eventprofs
carolyn_ray: @eventsforgood I was definitely intimidated at first. Acronyms and inside jokes but then I got used to it and became a part! #eventprofs
EmilieBarta: Our community is very open to answering questions so if a newbie is confused, all they have to do is ask. Right? #eventprofs
eventsforgood: So is helping newbies the most important next step for us as a community? #eventprofs
EmilieBarta: @carolyn_ray And was’t it a wonderful feeling when you figured it all out on your own? :) #personalsatisfaction #eventprofs
VirtuallyAmaz: I think just encourage newbies to jump in. The water is warm…LOL #eventprofs
susanlynncope: maybe sending out a tweet prior to chats. “if you are new to #eventprofs, we encourage you to join our chat….” #eventprofs

Takeaways

eventsforgood: What are the biggest takeaways from this chat moving forward? Can we take ownership over these suggestions? #eventprofs
bethbrodovsky: @eventsforgood A plan is critical for turning new members into involved members. So many groups ignore them and they leave #eventprofs
eventsforgood: Would anyone like to ownership over writing a blog post or something about the co-moderating & newbie chats to get the idea out? #eventprofs
carolyn_ray: @JeniseFryatt How about ways to get involved with #eventprofs
susanlynncope: @eventsforgood I wrote this post back in April. How a #eventprofs community welcomes new members http://bit.ly/b5JJdd #eventprofs
JeniseFryatt: @eventsforgood If no one else wants to write a blog post, I’ll do it. :) #eventprofs
